Wales trips 

  • During the period April to June 2025, Great Britain (GB) residents took 1.67 million overnight trips in Wales with 4.76 million nights and £425 million spent during these trips.
  • Approximately 8% of all GB trips included an overnight stay in Wales. The share of total GB nights was 8%, while the share of total GB expenditure on overnight trips was 6%.
  • The average expenditure per trip was £255 for overnight trips.
  • The average duration of overnight trips to Wales was 2.9 nights with an average spend of £89 per night.
  • From April to June 2025, GB residents took 12.93 million tourism day trips in Wales, with £535 million spent during these trips.
  • Approximately 5% of tourism day trips taken in GB included a visit in Wales. The share of total GB expenditure on tourism day trips was 4% for Wales.
  • The average expenditure per trip £41 for day trips.
  • Compared to the second quarter of 2024, the volume of overnight trips taken in Wales during the second quarter of 2025 was 16% lower, whilst expenditure was 25% lower. In comparison, the volume of day trips taken in Wales was 4% lower, while expenditure on day trips taken in Wales was 14% lower.

Statistics on domestic visitors are obtained from the Great Britain Tourism Survey. This is a weekly online survey of around 95,000 GB residents each year. The survey is managed jointly by Visit Wales, VisitEngland and VisitScotland.
