Accommodation businesses that offer adventure activity or outdoor activities are able to include their offers on the VisitWales.com site if they are accredited or assured by recognised routes.
Why Accreditation/Assurance Matters
The VWAAAS was developed in partnership with the Wales Adventure Tourism Organisation (WATO) and aims to give visitors confidence that adventure activity providers/businesses deliver safe, high-quality experiences.
Accreditation/assurance demonstrates that your business follows industry good practice, complies with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and maintains strong standards of customer care and risk management.
Routes to Assurance
There are three ways to meet the assurance criteria:
- Existing Accreditation (Route 1)
- If you already hold a recognised UK accreditation, you can self-certify via the Visit Wales form.
- Technical Consultant Review (Route 2)
- Businesses without one of the recognised accreditations can engage a Visit Wales-nominated technical consultant for a consultation/audit, activity observation, and compliance report.
- Mountain Training Professionals (Route 3)
- Sole traders offering walking, climbing, or mountaineering activities can demonstrate compliance through Route 3.
What do you need to do?
- Visit the Visit Wales Adventure Activity Assurance Scheme page and choose which route applies to your business activity
- Follow the instructions and links within your chosen Route
Once your application has been verified, you’ll receive certification and login details to update your Visit Wales product listing.
Important Notes
- Accreditation/Assurance is mandatory for adventure activity providers/businesses to appear on VisitWales.com.
- Listings last for three years and must be renewed.
- Activities not covered by your certificate cannot be added without further verification.
