Make Welshness a part of your business

The Hwyl Hospitality campaign celebrates the best of Welsh hospitality. Bringing together our warm welcome and distinctive food and drink to give visitors a real taste of Wales and a strong sense of Welshness.

  • Sense of Welshness

A strong sense of Welshness can help create that feeling of hwyl, a deep feeling of joy and connection that makes an experience memorable. Our hospitality, warm welcome, local food and drink, language and culture all help bring this to life through what visitors see, hear, smell, touch and taste.

There are simple ways tourism and hospitality businesses can create a stronger sense of Welshness. Offer Welsh food and drink, celebrate local producers, recommend near by places and share the stories that make your area special.

By bringing more Welshness into the visitor experience, you can help visitors feel a deeper connection to Wales and create memorable experiences they’ll want to come back for.

    • 4/10 of guests would pay more for dishes with Welsh ingredients
    • ¼ would be discouraged from visiting if there was no Welsh offer

Welsh food and drink can play an important part in the visitor experience, helping businesses to showcase a sense of place and give guests more opportunities to experience Welsh produce.

There are practical ways you can bring more Welshness into your offer. This could include:

    • introducing more Welsh ingredients to your menus
    • highlighting where produce comes from
    • sharing the stories behind your suppliers
    • making Welsh products more visible to guests when they visit.

The Welsh Government’s Value of Welshness research explores what shoppers and guests in Wales and across the United Kingdom are looking for and demonstrates the demand for more Welsh food and drink in retail and out-of-home venues.
