A few thoughtful touches can make a big difference.

They help cyclists feel welcome, supported and more likely to stay longer. These changes are simple, but their impact lasts.

For many businesses, it starts with recognising cyclists as valued visitors and showing that from the moment they arrive

Offer a warm welcome

  • Be ready to greet cyclists in all weathers

Provide the basics

  • Safe, secure bike storage
  • Space for wet kit, helmets and bags (drying room or towels)
  • Easy access to water refills

Make essentials easy

  • Offer a repair pump and multitool
  • Provide take-away food and drink
  • Use clear signage so cyclists know what’s available

Share local knowledge

  • Know the type of cycling in your area (MTB, road, gravel, leisure)
  • Recommend 2–3 local routes (easy, scenic, challenging) or link to the Visit Wales route tool
  • Know the nearest bike shop, café and repair point
  • Share updates on roadworks, closures or local conditions
  • Suggest scenic stops, great coffee spots and photo points

Connect with the community

  • Link with local cycling clubs and explore ways to include visitors

Support onward travel

  • Signpost transport options and travel support
  • Provide maps and highlight nearby attractions and places to eat

Equip your team

  • Make sure staff understand cyclists’ needs and offer a warm, consistent welcome

Enhance the visitor experience

  • Let visitors know where they can watch the event (free on Channel 5)
  • Share the Plan Your Route tool to help them explore further

Small actions add up. Get the basics right, and cyclists are more likely to return, stay longer and recommend your business to others.
