What is Responsible Tourism?

Responsible Tourism forms part of our Welcome to Wales: Priorities for the Visitor Economy 2020-2025 where our ambition is to grow tourism for the good of Wales. This means economic growth that delivers benefits for people and places, including:

  • environmental sustainability
  • social and cultural enrichment
  • and health benefits.

Responsible tourism means making better places for people to live in and to visit. It’s about:

  • Minimising negative impacts on the environment and local culture.
  • Maximising economic benefits for local people.
  • Respecting and celebrating Welsh heritage, language, and landscapes.
  • Encouraging year-round, low-impact travel that supports communities beyond peak seasons.

Addo

Addo is our long-term responsible tourism campaign, where we encourage visitors and locals to promise to do the little things that make a big difference, to look after our land, our businesses, our communities and each other.

Get involved

Here’s how you can support the Addo campaign:

  • Encourage your visitors to be thoughtful and help them experience the hwyl of Wales safely. Remind them to prepare for each adventure come rain or shine. Share some of the safety messages from the resources below.
  • Share the Visit Wales #Addo social media posts to keep visitors informed.
  • Use the Addo logo in your relevant marketing content.
